5 cheap Halloween hacks to make your party spooktastic
Since we’ve already given you tips on how to make your Halloween outfits on the cheap with either a £5 or measily £1 budget – we thought it was time to complete the ensemble and help you out with these Halloween party hacks.
DIY Cobwebs
Most of us have our own cobwebs in the corners of our rooms, but if for some reason you’ve actually been able to reach all your nooks and crannies, you’re going to need some cobwebs for your Halloween shindig. What’s the special ingredient? It’s our cheap hack favourite, the bin bag.
First things first, take your bag and trim it so you’ve got a single square of plastic. Here comes the tricky bit, fold it in half diagonally, then do it again and once more for luck. Place the open edge of the bag at the top and start to cut out your cobweb threads like below.
Make sure you don’t cut the point at the bottom otherwise you’ll have a non-cobweb looking cobweb. Once you’re done unfold to reveal your work of art. Hang in your windows, on your walls or wherever the hell you want, add plastic spiders if you really want to go the whole hog.
Spider Doughnuts
We may as well keep on the spider theme because let’s be real, they’re terrifying. What’s one thing a party always needs? You’re right. Plenty of snacks. These are quick and easy to make and taste delicious, it’ll be a step up compared to what you eat in the campsites, believe us.
What you’ll need:
- Mini chocolate doughnuts
- A bag of hard pretzels
- M&Ms or Smarties, your preference, we won’t judge you
- Chocolate
Method:
Get yourself a knife and cut the 2 curved sides off the pretzel, wondering why you’re doing this? They’re going to be spider legs, silly.
Push 8 of the pretzel curves into the top of a mini doughnut to form the legs, 4 on each side, unless you want to make a mutant spider, in which case, oooooh, scary.
Melt 2-3 pieces of chocolate in a sandwich bag and cut off the corner so you can pipe two dots of chocolate glue onto your doughnut, stick on your M&Ms for eyeballs and hey presto, you’ve got yourself a delicious edible spider.
Witch Guacamole
It isn’t 2018 without some form of avocado and what’s better than a witchy dip we hear you cry? Absolutely nothing, so start gathering up the ingredients for this because you 100% need it in your life.
What you’ll need:
For the guacamole
- 3 ripe avocados
- 3 tablespoons of lime juice
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 1 container of chive and onion cream cheese
- 2 spring onions
- 2 tablespoons of coriander
If you can’t be arsed to get all of those and make it from scratch, just buy some pots of pre-made guac. Who the hell are we to judge? We’d probably do the same.
For the decoration
- ½ bag of tortilla chips (dark ones if possible)
- 4 carrots peeled and cut into sticks
- Pepper, cucumber or whatever else you want to create the witches faces with
Method:
Get all the ingredients for the guacamole and squish together with a fork until it’s all mixed up and looks like the right consistency. Once It’s looking lovely and mashed, cover it over and put into the fridge for at least 2 hours to set. Or if you’ve chosen the easy option of pre-made guac, just put your feet up and have a cuppa.
Take your chilled guac out of the fridge and shape into a witch’s face, it’s time to use your artistic skills here, you really want to accentuate that pointy chin. HAVE YOU SEEN HOCUS POCUS?! That’s the vibe right there.
Now it’s time to decorate, what does a witch need? A broomstick. Okay, yeah… forget about that because it isn’t part of this. A witch needs hair. Arrange your carrot sticks so that she’s got a lovely mop on her head, then take your tortilla chips and give her a hat. Now it’s up to you to use whatever else you could find to make her features. Pickle nose, olive eyeballs, pepper mouth, let your imagination run wild, this witch didn’t come to play.
Cat Fairy Lights
This is so simple yet effective, we don’t know why we’ve never done it before. Y’all ready? Get yourself some black card and cut out a simple outline of a cat head. Poke two holes in the centre where their eyes would be, then just push your fairy lights through so their eyes are shining brightly. That’s one way to spruce up your basic fairy lights that are strung around your room.
Pumpkin Drinks Cooler
Parties need a few beverages and what better way to keep them cool for your company than in a seasonal container? Ice bucket? More like ice pumpkin. Grab yourself the biggest pumpkin you can find and hollow out the middle. Scoop out all the slime and seeds then fill with ice, top up with your preferred liquid for the night (in the bottles, don’t be daft) and enjoy!
Now you’ve saved all that money on your Halloween gathering, you may as well splash the cash on a ticket for Leeds 2019. Be sensible, get your tickets now at 2018 prices, they won’t hang around forever.
