The band entered to a deafening reception of screams and jumped straight into the action.

Whether it was heavier tracks like ‘Yuk Foo’ or the emotional hit ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’; the band were tighter than tight.

The latter of those tracks was undoubtedly the pinnacle of their performance, exposing Ellie Rowsell’s otherworldly vocal ability as she jumped from a spoken word verse to a goosebump-inducing chorus. All the while fans were screaming the lyrics at the top of their lungs as a mirror-ball span light around the tent — the makings of a mesmerising memory to cherish.

At times the band possessed an eerie and almost haunting quality that contrasted with the aggressive palm-muted and punky sections of songs (often twinned with Ellie’s shrieking vocals). Demonstrating the band’s varied style and effortless versatility that’s got them to the dizzying heights they’re soaring at.

Rowsell and the boys are without doubt one of the hottest properties on our shores and were humble in stating it meant the world to them to be playing that slot and stage at Leeds festival. Confetti rained down as the band left stage in front of an elated crowd, no doubt left wanting more.

The Used deliver music and soliloquies

Energetic and lovable lead singer Bert McCracken was quick to promise old songs for their diehard fans (which was basically everyone) that packed out the Lock Up Stage.

Quintessential hits included opener ‘Take It Away’ as well as ‘The Bird and the Worm’ and ‘I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes)’ that soon reminded anyone who had forgotten what the band are all about. The crowd constantly threw their hands in the air when called upon, as well as producing a crunching wall of death to be placed on the band’s upcoming DVD! The crowd really felt like a family, singing in unison as bodies bounced off one another throughout.

The band have spent 18 years delivering their powerful brand of music to the masses; but surprisingly today, McCracken also delivered several of Shakespeare’s soliloquies in between tracks, reminding us also of what a well-read man he is.

Thanking the crowd for making their dreams come true, without doubt the band themselves made fans dreams come true today with a nostalgic setlist.

The band took to the stage with a bang and a flash of blue lights that sent the crowd into a frenzy before they had even played their first song. Despite a minor technical difficulty at the beginning, the band kept their cool and carried on like the professionals they are.

Pete Wentz amazed fans when his bass doubled up as a flame thrower and fire flashed across the stage as they performed huge track ‘The Phoenix’.

Lead singer Patrick Stump sounded even better live, with gold fireworks exploding behind the stage as ‘Irresistible’ played.

Classic track ‘Sugar, We’re Going Down’ had the crowd singing their hearts out, filled with nostalgia and happiness.

The set went from strength to strength with the perfect mix of special effects, new and old tunes, and impeccable live sound. (And even more fireworks thrown in for good measure.)

Fans loved songs like ‘Uma Thurman’ and ‘The Last of the Real Ones’ almost as much as they loved the psychedelic graphics and Pete’s inspiring words about the power of love.

’Save Rock and Roll’ had fans chanting and swaying, with Pete then inviting a mosh pit for one of their biggest songs ‘Dance, Dance’.

The band ended the set with ‘Centuries’ (and you guessed it, more fireworks) and it was easy to see why such an incredible band were the headliners.

Oh wait… that wasn’t the end! The band came back on stage for a selfie and famous tune ‘My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark’ … amazing!

The Kooks tease their new album

Teasing soon-to-come album ‘Let’s Go Sunshine’ (due out August 31st), the band flitted between newer material and the classics. Their work-ethic has never waned, and here we are X amount of years after inception and they’re still making wonderful music and memories for their infatuated fanbase.

Frontman Luke Pritchard rocked some rather formal attire (along with guitarist Hugh Harris donning his familiar hat), and their performance was smooth and slick enough to match. He even channelled his inner Freddie Mercury with some raucous call and response play with the crowd, who were emanating a real feel-good and friendly atmosphere throughout.

The high points of their performance would have to be stripped-back ‘Seaside’, ‘Ooh La’ and as you’d expect cracker ‘Naïve’. We’re eagerly anticipating the new album as they continue to do anything but let us down!
