And that’s exactly what we were treated to at the Main Stage today. Post-grunge powerhouse, Dinosaur Pile-Up, threw everyone in at the drop-tuned deep end with one of their notoriously heavy live shows.

Festival spirit in full swing, the band were greeted with a hometown reception from the early-risers, gathered to rock.

Dinosaur Pile-Up proceeded to pay back the crowd’s enthusiasm with interest and got them participating, clapping along to the chunky riffs soaring out of lead singer Matt Bigland’s Gibson Explorer. With their sound reminiscent of 90s heroes Nirvana and Weezer, the band paid homage to the latter with a brief ‘Say It Ain’t So’ interlude — a tiny treat for those who recognised it.

The local lads also included a rendition of new track ‘Round the Bend’ in their set, mixed in with classics such as ‘My Rock ‘n’ Roll’. The real highlight was final song ‘11:11’, which was the catalyst for the first mosh-pit of the weekend, getting everyone in the mood for what’s to come!

Ultimately, their performance was a strong reminder that Leeds itself has an epic music scene, with bands more than fit for the Main Stage.
